the Democrats next?
"This Republican Party of Lincoln has become a party of theocracy."

That's completely over the top.
Obama is not making the government more religious; he wants to have some money to go to programs like soup kitchens and after school programs that are run by faith communities.
dokie
I heard almost the same from bush and his buddies.
I am not saying Obama would be bad at this, but what about those under him and those that come after him?
Why don't you see the danger here?
Bush is a total phony who used religion to get what he wanted. Perhaps he does believe God spoke to him, he's still not a Christian in any sense of the word I've ever seen. I think his perception of God came from "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret".
Obama actually went to church, he knows church leaders, he knows what they can do. If you know of a better or faster way to organize a national community service group with branches all across the country, then... do it. Because you'd qualify for that funding, too. :-)
and let's say 9 years from now Dan Qyale is sworn in? the precedent is the key here, not Obama personally
understood, but the door's already been opened. I don't see how we could simply make faith-based programs disappear. At this point, the best move would seem to be putting in place a proper set of standards and regulation to make sure that a president quayle couldn't mess with it in the future.
By the way, considering I've dealt with some religious organizations that help the needy as part of my job, I don't think faith-based funding is a bad idea. They usually do tremendous work.
I would also note that Chris Shays showed his strong opposition to this by boldly doing nothing about it. What a man of principle.
