Anybody know of any good free internet security. I was using AVG and they made me update to their trial for 8.0 recently. I don't like it and will not pay for their product. And today I don't feel like paying for anyones product before checking it out.
How apropos -- I just read about them today. AVG is a piece of shit that screws web site owners by generating bogus traffic. I use Privoxy. It's a bit tricky to get set up, but it's free and does a great job tossing ads and other junk.
This is what has screwed them up
"new malware scanner from AVG Technologies."
I turned off this piece.
Always do a custom or advanced install and then always go and check the prefs and options after install.

I agree that they should have done a better job. I will need to look deeper into this myself.

You were lead astray!
They always try and get you to stray to the PAY version. Zonelabs does this also with Zonealarm.
You need to look for the FREE version. AVG FREE
You can also start here: http://free.avg.com/
Becareful of what you "check" while loading it.
Uninstall the "upgrade" you just got and install the one from the link above.
