DailyKos- Markos stayed at the holiday Inn last night !

It took him 2 weeks to come out of his shelter to stand up for the very causes he has celebrated for years. I guess Obama's last slap down of Moveon.org was the final straw? Personally I find this guy ( kos) more of an opportunist than any flag carrying member for the progressive cause.

A bit of history on the Move On slam down. I'd say good for you Barack you called it right!. The General Betrayus ad was disgusting and shameful to those and hope most americans that have families who serve(ed)

Barack Obama on Monday seemed to take a direct swipe at MoveOn.org, the powerful liberal group which endorsed the Illinois senator's candidacy earlier this year and was at times instrumental to his organization in several key battleground states.

In a speech designed to combat charges he lacks patriotism, Obama sharply condemned organizations that use "these old, threadbare arguments" to level criticisms and specifically pointed to MoveOn.org's controversial newspaper ad last fall that attacked the top U.S. general in Iraq, David Petraeus.

Now the great Kos bellows:

So many of you are upset that I pulled back my credit card last night, making a last minute decision to hold back on a $2,300 contribution to Obama. Let me explain further:

First of all, obviously Obama is a great candidate who is running a great 50-state race. That much cannot be denied. But he's had a rough couple of weeks.

First, he reversed course and capitulated on FISA, not just turning back on the Constitution, but on the whole concept of "leadership". Personally, I like to see presidents who 1) lead, and 2) uphold their promises to protect the Constitution.

Then, he took his not-so-veiled swipe at MoveOn in his "patriotism" speech.

Finally, he reinforced right-wing and media talking points that Wes Clark had somehow impugned McCain's military service when, in reality, Clark had done no such thing.

When Mr. Wenner asked how Mr. Obama might respond to harsh attacks from Republicans, suggesting that Democrats have "cowered" in the past, Mr. Obama replied, "Yeah, I don't do cowering."

Could've fooled me, and maybe he is. Maybe what looks like cowering to me is really part of that "moving to the center" stuff everyone keeps talking about. But there is a line between "moving to the center" and stabbing your allies in the back out of fear of being criticized

Add to that Keith O has changed his tune after being slapped down for being the pretentious progressive of the year. Now claiming to show great I say GREAT! irrate at the FISA bill.

" hey keith how about you just fall in line and give us another of your special * cough * * bullshit *comments segement"

Repeat: Markos , I can't say enough how much I agreed w/ barack on his calling out of Move on ( on this)--The General Betrayus AD was disgusting and shameful to those and hope most americans that have families who serve(ed).

Oh and this ad from Obama PAC( here comes the religion into politics after he vowed to keep bush's faith based program and only rename it).

Re: Everyone prepare to be shocked. (2.00 / 2)

What exactly would you have him do differently? The FISA thing was a capitulation that would pass with or without him, so he just decided not to let the train hit him. The patriotism thing used MoveOn as a counterexample to those who would question the patriotism of Americans who oppose the war. As for Wesley Clark, he doesn't exactly seem torn up about it, does he? I don't think he feels betrayed, and I don't think Obama is going to forsake him permanently for "inartful" remarks.

And the faith-based thing is completely on-target and a GREAT move politically. It's not talking about one particular religion, it's any religion, including the lack thereof. There are problems to be worked out, but it's a no-brainer that has potential to pay off bigtime in the general election. Look, we have a man who has worked with Christians for over 20 years against a man who is largely churchless that even the Religious Right aren't enamored with. What would YOU do if you were Obama's advisor?

I don't think he had to back down on FISA so much. Honestly, I'm disappointed in a LOT of Democrats over that. I didn't say some of it wasn't necessary if Obama wants mainstream America to vote for him -- in fact, that's part of what's depressing about it. But it still makes me feel miserable.

If it makes Obama supporters feel any better, Hillary's ridiculous gas tax holiday made me feel miserable as well. No politician can make everyone happy 100% of the time.

Re: All I said was, I'm unhappy. (2.00 / 2)

I agree about FISA. It REALLY disappointed me, but I do think it makes sense that he would have done it because the benefits of siding with blue dog Democrats and not giving the GOP an easy talking point outweighed the moral issue of standing up anyway. I sincerely hope that this is the case.

I don't blame you one bit, really, because I have those same doubts in the back of my mind. He's done a bit better this last week, though, and I'm starting to see the guy I backed in the primaries again.

Re: All I said was, I'm unhappy. (none / 0)

I think that Barack Obama might end up losing some of his more dogmatic/rigid and/or youthful and/or passionate support over the next couple of months, which will probably do him a bit of a favor in the GE. I am not trying to be insulting and hope I don't come off that way.

However, he does need to go to the center now. That doesn't mean that we all can't keep working on his "left flank" as Reaper0bot0 so elequently stated. And we need to decide how we really want politic and washington to change.

This is not going to happen overnight, but as a former Hillary supporter, a lifelong Democrat, and as an extremely liberal/progressive/feminist/lesbian from hell, I will support Barack Obama in any way I can. And, AND I will work to take our country and government back for the people. The last thing might take a bit longer than November.

Yes, it is backdoor politiking now. But if he comes out strongly against it, other democrats (may be just a few but some) will follow him. It will not be backdoor dealings with him leading on the issue. It will be in the national media attention. So far no major network is talking about this issue, but with him leading, they will.

I supported Hillary because i knew she was a Democrat to the core. I knew she'd fight hard for progressive causes and never give up. She knew she'd never be loved by the right, and she knew they would never give up without a fight.

Kos and progressive Obama supporters shouldn't be surprised by Obama's recent moves, he always claimed to transcend left and right. Whereas Hillary always claimed to represent the left.

Ironic isn't it, that Obama is now doing exactly what he attacked the Clintons for.

I'm sorry (none / 0)

but Hillary would've supported FISA too if she were the nominee...so would have Edwards, Richardson or Biden.

Re: DailyKos- Markos stayed at the holiday Inn (2.00 / 1)

So far Obama has met my expectations.  He has not suprised me one iota!  I am also not suprised by Markos.  What would suprise me is a Democratic Party defending the Constitution!

I want to know (none / 0)

what's going to happen when FISA comes up for a vote and Obama votes for it.

How is Markos going to respond?
